the Book

The Weekender Madrid is a book dedicated to rediscovering the city through the eyes of an adopted local. Charlotte Bergan Cioli moved to Madrid two years ago and is effusive about its finer points in the way of all converts. The trajectory of the book over a long weekend is her love letter to the city; checking back into a hotel as if a tourist and exploring the places that she has returned to again and again, with a fresh eye and the lens of her camera. “Warm, elegant, friendly, and always full of life”: this journey is not a checklist of monuments but an invitation to find a place for Madrid in your heart, too. Join her in a journey through reclaimed spaces, tiny independent shops and heritage buildings, curated artworks and found facades, stumbled upon in a wander through Spain’s vibrant capital city.

the Artist

Charlotte Bergan Cioli, a photographer and multi-disciplinary artist, finds inspiration in the finer things in life such as architecture, culinary delights, and the rich tapestry of global cultures. Born in Florida to a French mother and Norwegian father, she now calls Spain home, where she shares her world with her Italian husband. Her artistic journey is a reflection of her diverse upbringing and experiences living in various cities. Yet, it is Paris that holds a special place in her heart. Having lived there on and off for years, Charlotte continues to draw from the city’s artistic energy, literature, and museums.

Artist Review: Guillaume Sardin

Guillaume Sardin occupies an artistic space of wonder that is at once disciplined and childlike. A space where the warmth of a human hand overrides digital perfection, and the characteristic whimsy of his “narrative drawings” belie the deep skill that goes into the studied relaxedness of every line.
