Two capital cities, one shared philosophy of light and space in the north. In The Weekender Copenhagen, Toby Mitchell captures the hygge-filled corners of the Danish capital, while Matt Porter’s The Weekender Stockholm explores the elegant archipelago and the city's refined connection to the water. Together, these volumes act as a visual dialogue between two neighbors, celebrating the minimalism, timeless design, and understated beauty that define a modern Scandinavian lifestyle.

In his third book in the Weekender Series, photographer Toby Mitchell heads to the picturesque and enchanting city of Copenhagen, traversing the city in a Friday - Sunday trajectory. Now available in paperback, he picks out the most picturesque and enchanting parts, with his enigmatic eye taking in both iconic monuments and little-known streets, visiting local secrets in a meandering adventure through the city, inviting you to follow in his visual footsteps.
From the old renovated brick warehouses of port and industry to the absolute dedication to austere comfort and understated charm, Sweden’s capital is a place to feel stylish at any time of year. Heritage buildings and spires rise gracefully from the cobblestoned streets; modern bistros serve avant-garde cuisine; and the stores are full of minimalist, beautifully designed objects, made for quiet enjoyment of everyday life. The Weekender leads you through the roads and over the ethereal-seeming bridges of Stockholm, dipping in and out of the moments that make Scandinavia such a wonderful place to travel for a city break. Matt Porter takes you to some of his favorite places — snug cafés lit by candlelight, the photography museum, Stockholm brewery — in a natural journey taking you to places both familiar and unknown.

Matt Porter is a freelance creative based in London. After the UK, the place where he has spent the most time is Scandinavia, with Stockholm his first port of call in the region. It captured his heart, being not quite like any other place in the world. It remains one of his most important inspirations, and has influenced a body of work including photography for leading design brands, creative direction and multiple features in travel books and lifestyle magazines. Matt likes to shoot natural moments, letting real lifestyles form themselves organically into his compositions. Color, form, and motion all arise from genuine moments, in an unstaged, sympathetic way.

A Map of the Shadow Self
In the minutes after the sun has set or just before it rises, the world seems to lose its dimension. Shadows disappear, and the sky takes on a blue heaviness that seems to flatten the landscape into a single, monochromatic plane. For Gabriel Isak, this blue hour can be understood as a visual synonym for almost a decade of his life.
